Saltwater Intrusion
Port of New Orleans – Saltwater Intrusion Update
Wednesday, September 27, 2023
Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) remains unaffected by the current saltwater intrusion conditions in the Lower Mississippi River. Water systems and operations at our cruise and cargo terminals are functioning as normal. Port NOLA will continue to work with local, regional, and state agencies to monitor conditions and provide updates on this page.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has built a higher sill in the river that has a navigation lane that will be kept to a depth of -55 to ensure that deep-draft shipping continues along the Lower Mississippi River.
